MONEY / MACRO DESK — The Bureau of Labor Statistics published August 2026 Producer Price Indexes on Thursday, 10 September 2026, 8:30 a.m. Eastern (USDL 26-1495). This Extra locks only what the BLS primary release states. It is not the Bitcoin/Brent/CPI-calendar Extra, and it is not an August CPI file. No Fed call. No allocation language. Locked print — BLS primary. From the BLS August 2026 PPI news release (seasonally adjusted unless noted): final demand (headline) +0.4% MoM (Lead / Table A); final demand, 12-month unadjusted +5.4% (Lead / Table A); final demand less foods and energy +0.2% MoM (Table 1 special grouping FD 49104); final demand less foods, energy, and trade services +0.3% MoM and +4.7% YoY unadjusted (Lead / Table A); final demand goods +1.1%; final demand energy +4.2%; diesel fuel (No. 2) +24.1%; final demand services +0.1%; final demand foods +0.1%; final demand goods less foods and energy +0.4%; July final demand revised to +0.1% (was previously reported unchanged).
Final demand +0.4% MoM. +5.4% YoY. Energy +4.2%. Diesel +24.1%. Less foods and energy +0.2%. Less foods, energy, and trade +0.3%. Name the series.
Chief-wire check: wire said +0.4% / +5.4% / core +0.2%. Headline and year-over-year match BLS. The +0.2% matches final demand less foods and energy. Discrepancy/label flag: BLS’s lead paragraph highlights final demand less foods, energy, and trade services at +0.3% (and +4.7% over 12 months). Desk rule — name the series; do not call two different indexes “core” in one breath.
What moved the goods index. BLS attributes more than three-fourths of the August rise in final demand goods to final demand energy (+4.2%). Product detail singles out diesel fuel (+24.1%) as accounting for over a third of the goods advance; gasoline, jet fuel, and home heating oil also rose. Residential electric power fell 0.5%. Final demand foods edged up 0.1%; goods less foods and energy rose 0.4%.
Services — small, transport-led. Final demand services +0.1% — third consecutive monthly increase. BLS ties the August advance to final demand transportation and warehousing services (+2.3%). Trade services moved down 0.2%; services less trade, transportation, and warehousing were unchanged. Detail: truck transportation of freight +2.0%; airline passenger services, legal services, and hospital inpatient care also rose. Fuels and lubricants retailing margins fell 11.3%.
Intermediate demand (context only). For pipeline context — still BLS primary, not a forecast: processed goods for intermediate demand +1.8% in August (processed energy goods +7.3%); unprocessed goods for intermediate demand +1.1%; services for intermediate demand +0.3%. Twelve-month unadjusted advances: processed goods +11.5%, unprocessed goods +12.8%, services +5.1%. Extra records the print; it does not translate intermediate stages into consumer inflation.
Distinct ledgers — do not merge. The BTC / Brent / CPI Friday calendar Extra (btc-holds-oil-100-cpi-week) held PPI as calendar-only until primary. That file stays the crypto-oil-CPI clock. This file is the PPI print. August CPI — separate HOLD / Extra when BLS CPI primary posts. PPI ≠ CPI. Corporate BTC, Treasury buyback, Iran CBI settlement — other money desks; do not paste into this release Extra.
What this piece does not do: no investment advice; no rate-path tips; no “markets will…” language; no invented PPI figures beyond BLS USDL 26-1495; no conflation of less foods & energy (+0.2%) with less foods, energy, and trade (+0.3%); no live futures marks, no Fed speakers, no CPI preview numbers. Desk watch: next BLS PPI release is scheduled Thursday, 15 October 2026, 8:30 a.m. ET (September 2026 indexes), per the August release footer. Re-check BLS primary on that clock — do not invent. VIDEO=no.
Still discipline. The photograph is Ed Brown’s public-domain still of the Frances Perkins Building — U.S. Department of Labor headquarters, Washington, D.C., 4 May 2005 — via Wikimedia Commons. Archival DOL exterior. Real plate. Not AI. Not a fabricated release-day frame of 10 September 2026.
CLAIM vs CONFIRMED. CONFIRMED from BLS primary USDL 26-1495 (10 Sep 2026): final demand +0.4% MoM / +5.4% YoY unadj.; final demand less foods and energy +0.2% MoM; final demand less foods, energy, and trade services +0.3% MoM / +4.7% YoY; goods +1.1%; energy +4.2%; diesel +24.1% (>1/3 of goods advance); services +0.1%; July revised to +0.1% MoM (was unchanged). NOT here: August CPI figures; Fed path tips; buy/sell language; merge with btc-holds-oil-100-cpi-week body. FALSE framing — do not use: “Nth Meridian invents CPI from PPI” or merge +0.2% and +0.3% as one “core.” VIDEO=no. Nailed down, 11 September 2026, 06:35 GMT. PATH /money/ppi-august-2026.
